Sr. Optics Engineer, Atia Vision


Atia Vision is an early stage Shifamed Portfolio Company focused on the development of novel accommodating intraocular lens to address the unmet clinical needs the fastest growing segment of the ophthalmology market.  We are currently looking for a hands-on Sr. Optics Engineer who is innovative in their creative thinking, proactive in their approach to problem solving, and a collaborative team player.  This position represents an exciting opportunity to join the Atia Vision team as we advance the product platform.

As a Sr. Optics Engineer on the Atia Vision team, you will be responsible all optics performance aspects in the development of an accommodating intraocular Lens (AIOL). This includes optical design, metrology, product assessment, optimization and transfer into manufacturing.


Including but not limited to:

  • Coordinate optical reviews with outside consultants and scientific advisors as needed
  • Initiate the design, critical evaluation, and development of optical requirements in intra-ocular lens design
  • Interact with physicians to understand product requirements
  • Conduct detailed optical design and characterization studies
  • Support evaluation of new designs as applicable
  • Conduct bench tests and prepare reports with an emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of the resulting test data
  • Document relevant information to lab notebooks. Release controlled documentation as required according to good laboratory practices or company procedure
  • Lead optic projects through the product development process
  • Provide leadership and direction to R&D technicians and assemblers as needed
  • Prepare test protocols and reports for optics verification and validation testing of all products
  • Write standard test procedures for all routine optical testing and inspections
  • Work with product design and process engineering to optimize overall product performance
  • Assist Manufacturing and QA in the development of process, assembly, test and inspection procedures


  • Knowledge of intraocular and toric intraocular lens design
  • Optical metrology and Interferometry experience related to IOL products
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Zemax required
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO11979 and related requirements
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective interaction with R&D management and other cross-functional departments


  • MS / PhD in Optics-related engineering field; 5+ years in ophthalmic device field
  • Minimum 5 years of related ophthalmology experience
