Amr is a seasoned medical device entrepreneur with over 30 years of healthcare experience. He is the founder and CEO of Shifamed LLC, a successful and well-established medical innovation hub headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley. Legacy portfolio companies that Amr has held a leadership role in include Embolic Protection Inc. (acquired by Boston Scientific, 2001), Sadra Medical (acquired by Boston Scientific, 2011), Maya Medical (acquired by Covidien, 2012), Kalila Medical (acquired by Abbott, 2016), Apama Medical (acquired by Boston Scientific, 2017) and NuVera Medical (acquired by Biosense Webster, a Johnson & Johnson company, 2020).

Shifamed and its dedicated management team has raised over $300 Million to date for its portfolio companies. Current portfolio companies include four focused in cardiovascular, two in the ophthalmology space, and one SaaS company. All portfolio companies are initiated, funded, and operated by Shifamed, with Amr serving as the Chairman of the Board. Each company is an independent Delaware entity led by an experienced CEO with a focused team and strategically structured for rapid integration upon acquisition. To date, Shifamed has grown to over 180 employees across a six-building campus.

Shifamed has over 350 U.S. patent applications pending and issued worldwide, with Amr as either the inventor or co-inventor on over 200. Amr holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

Mariam has over fifteen years of experience in increasingly responsible roles within business strategy, finance, R&D, and operations in the medical device and diagnostic sectors. Currently, she is Chief Business Officer of Shifamed and CEO of Atia Vision, a portfolio company of Shifamed. Prior to Shifamed, she served as the Chief Operating Officer for deltaDOT QSTP-LLC, a joint venture between Imperial College of London and Qatar Foundation. Prior to that, she was Principal Engineer at Johnson & Johnson, where she co-founded JJ MeMs, an early stage medical microsystems incubator. Prior to Johnson & Johnson, Mariam was a Research Scientist at the Center for Micro and Nano Technology at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories where she was a technical lead on the Department of Energy’s Retinal Prosthesis Project. Mariam is an inventor on 21 issued US patents. She holds a B.S. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Biomedical engineering from University of California, Davis. She also earned dual M.B.A degrees from Columbia Business School and the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

David joined Shifamed as Chief Financial Officer in January of 2019 and serves as the CFO for each of Shifamed’s portfolio companies.  He brings over 25 years of experience in financial and operating executive leadership roles for early-stage and mid-sized medical device and life science companies. His experience includes a significant number of equity, debt, and shareholder liquidity transactions, the establishment and oversight of financial and operating controls and information systems that enable rapid scaling, and direct operational accountability.  Most recently David served as CFO and COO of Optovue, Inc.  a medical device company that rapidly emerged as a leader in Ophthalmology imaging.  David also served as CFO for Laser Diagnostic Technologies up until its sale to Carl Zeiss Meditech. David is a certified public accountant and began his career at Deloitte in the Emerging Business Services group.

Debbie has over 25 years of experience establishing and managing innovative corporate infrastructures and systems within the medical device industry. Debbie is recognized as a human resources and administrative start-up expert and an integral part of the management team for both initial public offerings and corporate acquisitions.  Currently Debbie serves as Chief People Officer for Shifamed and its portfolio companies.  Prior to joining Shifamed, Debbie was VP of Human Resources and Administration at Benvenue Medical.  Prior to Benvenue Medical, Debbie led the human resources and administration functions at various medical device start-ups including Spiracur Inc. (acquired by Kinetic Concepts), Cryovascular Systems, Inc. (acquired by Boston Scientific) and CardioThoracic Systems, Inc. (acquired by Guidant following IPO).  Debbie holds a B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Robert has over 15 years of experience advising both large companies and startups in the life sciences field. Robert previously served as Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property for Thoratec Corporation, a global leader in pump technology to address advanced heart failure, prior to its acquisition by St. Jude Medical for $3.4 billion and St. Jude’s subsequent acquisition by Abbott one year later for $25 billion. At Thoratec, Robert led a turnaround of the IP function as the company doubled revenues and launched two major products. At Abbott, Robert was part of the IP Litigation group where he was responsible for managing high-impact IP and technology cases. Prior to Thoratec and Abbott, Robert worked at a global law firm and a medtech patent boutique firm where he successfully advised a number of startups through successful exits. Robert has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and a J.D. and M.B.A. from DePaul University.

Katie has 20 years of experience in healthcare and has worked with a variety of medical technology companies ranging from venture-backed start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Katie founded and leads SPRIG Consulting, LLC providing strategic marketing services. Katie works closely with the Shifamed team on strategic marketing and branding initiatives. Key projects with Shifamed and its companies have included development of the Shifamed website as well as consulting on market development, investor presentations and commercialization strategies. Prior to founding SPRIG, Katie’s career included sales and marketing roles with Guidant Corporation and Kensey Nash Corporation. Katie holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a B.A. from the University of Vermont. Currently, Katie is a Kellogg lecturer and teaches the course medical product commercialization to future healthcare leaders.

Brian Fahey has 15 years’ experience leading medical device companies in both the development and early commercialization phases. He is currently the CEO of Adona Medical, a company he co-founded with Amr Salahieh and the most recently portfolio company of Shifamed, LLC. Previous to Adona, Brian was co-founder and CEO of Niveus Medical, a critical care company. He has also had multiple stints in consulting roles with JNJ Innovation with a focus on drug-device products for oncology, and was a contributor to senior leadership at Arrinex, a neuromodulation company focused in ENT. He is an alumni of the Stanford Biodesign Innovation Program and holds a Ph.D. from Duke University, where he focused on the development of novel ultrasound technologies.

Murali comes to Akura Medical with over 20 years of experience in both large and small medical device companies. Most recently, he was the Divisional Vice President of Global Heart Failure Marketing at Abbott Laboratories, responsible for Mechanical Circulatory Support (HeartMate™), Acute Circulatory Support (CentriMag™), Pulmonary Artery Pressure Monitoring (CardioMEMS™), and Continuum – a national home medical equipment provider. In this role, he rebuilt the marketing team and helped deliver double-digit market share growth which led to the team receiving a Chairman’s Award and several President’s Awards.

Before joining Abbott in 2017, Murali was the Vice President and General Manager of Cardiac Management Solutions at ZOLL. ZOLL acquired Kyma Medical Technologies, where he served as President and CEO. Prior to Kyma, Murali was the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Operations at Corventis, a pioneer in wireless technologies for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, before being acquired by Medtronic in 2014.

Earlier in his career, at both Boston Scientific’s Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Guidant CRM, Murali helped bring nascent therapies to market in various marketing and sales roles. These technologies included heart failure leads and delivery systems, wireless CRT-D devices, and wireless home monitoring.

Murali holds a B.E. in Electronics Engineering from Bangalore University, India, an Executive Masters in International Trade from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, and an M.B.A. from IMD, Switzerland.

Charu comes to Enlil with over three decades of product development & strategy experience, including Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions and User Interface/Experience (UI/UX). She is currently the General Manager of Enlil, a Shifamed portfolio company focused on developing an enterprise software solution for regulated industries. Previously, Charu served as the Vice President of Product Management Manufacturing for Epicor. In this role, she managed product roadmaps and integrations involving material requirements planning (MRP), enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing execution software (MES), and product lifecycle management (PLM). Prior to joining Epicor, Charu served as the Senior Director of Product Management within SCM at Oracle and led business-to-business (B2B) solutions, guided customers through migrations to new cloud product introductions. At Oracle, she created new products to track Innovation, Product Lifecyle and Quality data, integrating them into other Fusion Oracle Products . Earlier in her career, Charu also held senior leadership positions with Conformia Software (acquired by Oracle) building solutions for Pharma, Wine and Beverage, with an innovative software offering for regulated industries. Prior to Conformia, she ran Technical Consulting & Support at Agile Software with Agile being bought by Oracle. She was at Aspect Development, where she built PLM and MRO solutions for High Tech, Aeronautical industries – Aspect was bought by i2 Technologies. She has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Bangalore University in India and a M.S. in Computer Science from University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Pablo has over two decades of medical device development and leadership experience. Currently, he is the General Manager of Laza Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company focused on developing robotic innovation powered by AI solutions for the cardiovascular space. Previously, Pablo served as the Vice President of Digital Solutions for Johnson & Johnson (J&J). In this role, he led the strategy and development of the company’s digital product ecosystem, focused on surgical tools and robotics. Pablo was the technology founder for Verb Surgical, Inc, leading the product concept and technology that resulted in a strategic venture between J&J and Google which was acquired by J&J in 2020. He served as the Vice President of Research and Technology, helping to productize the technology together with a team of several hundred engineers while developing the company’s strategic product roadmap and IP portfolio. Earlier in his career, Pablo held roles of increasing responsibility with SRI International where he spearheaded medical and robotics research, through numerous cutting-edge development projects for government and commercial clients. During his tenure, he also co-founded MISTRAL, a collaboration between SRI and Stanford Hospital to develop novel medical devices for children. Pablo has his B.S./M.S. in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain and a M.S.M.E. from Stanford University focused on Mechatronics. He also has nanodegrees in Artificial Intelligence, focused specifically on Deep and Reinforcement Learning.

Rob has over twenty-five years of experience in the medical device sector primarily focused on delivering novel innovative products to patients and their medical teams.  He is currently President and CEO of Myra Vision, a Shifamed founded and incubated company focused on minimally invasive glaucoma treatment.  Previously he was President and CEO of MVRx, a development stage company focused on percutaneous mitral valve repair.  Rob co-founded MVRx, led the company from formation through world-wide clinical trials, and continues to serve as member of the board of directors.  Immediately prior to MVRx, Rob served as Executive Vice President and CTO of Sadra Medical, a Shifamed founded company, that developed the Lotus transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) system.  He was responsible for all aspects of development and operations from first clinical trials through early commercialization prior to Sadra being acquired by Boston Scientific.  Preceding Sadra, Rob served as President and CEO of Ample Medical, a company focused on mitral valve therapies, which he founded and shepherded from concept through early clinical trials.  Previous to Ample, Rob was Chief Operating Officer of Satiety, an obesity therapy company, where he marshalled the development of multi-platform solutions.  Earlier, Rob served as President and Chief Operating Officer of IsoStent where he led the development of radioactive and non-radioactive stent platforms including the stent system that was acquired by Johnson & Johnson and later became first commercial drug delivery stent system.  In addition, Rob served in areas of increasing responsibility at IsoStent, Device for Vascular Interventions/Guidant, and Lockheed Missiles & Space.  Rob is an inventor on over 35 issued US patents and numerous international patents.  Rob earned a B.S. from Cal Poly and a S.M. from MIT both in Mechanical Engineering.

Nitin has over two decades of medical device development and leadership experience. Currently, he is President and CEO of Supira Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company. Previously, he served as Vice President of Research and Development for Medtronic’s Neurovascular business and a member of its management board. In this role, Nitin was responsible for the strategic growth through new product development for the global business, which included therapies for treating ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Prior to Medtronic, Nitin served as the Vice President of Research and Development at Altura Medical (acquired by Lombard Medical), as well as Director of Research and Development Engineering at Cordis Corp, a Johnson and Johnson company; acquired by Cardinal Health. Early in his career, Nitin was with W.L. Gore & Associates, holding roles of increasing responsibility within new product development, engineering operations and marketing. Nitin is an inventor / co-author on several patents and publications. Nitin holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, with research focus in Cardiovascular Biomechanics, from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.  Additionally, he holds an M.S. from the University of Oklahoma and an Executive MBA from San Jose State University.

Mike is President and CEO of Tioga Cardiovascular, a Shifamed-founded and incubated company focused on mitral valve replacement and as executive in residence (EIR) at Shifamed, he was one of Tioga’s co-founders. Mike brings more than 30 years of leadership and MedTech experience with a focus on medical device startups. Previously, he was CEO of Kalila Medical, another Shifamed portfolio company, where he led the company from early prototype through regulatory approvals and successful product launch. He also led Kalila’s successful acquisition by Abbott Laboratories and FTC-mandated divestiture to Terumo Medical. Before Kalila, he was VP of Business Development for Maya Medical, another Shifamed company that was acquired by Covidien (now Medtronic), VP of Marketing for Aragon Surgical (acquired by Aesculap), and VP of Marketing for Concentric Medical (acquired by Stryker). Earlier, he was a cofounder, board member and VP of marketing, business development, clinical and regulatory affairs at Aspire Medical, a minimally invasive implant for obstructive sleep apnea (acquired by Philips/ Respironics). He also held marketing or sales roles at Radiant Medical, Target Therapeutics (acquired by Boston Scientific, now Stryker), Devices for Vascular Intervention/Guidant and The Upjohn Company (now Pfizer). He is a named inventor on more than 65 issued US patents and holds a BS in Biology and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
